The AK-FT232RL is a breakout board for the FTDI FT232R USB to serial UART converter IC. This convenient little board allows you to convert from USB to UART (TTL levels) emulating a full serial port through USB on your PC/MAC.
The board comes with a pinout that makes it compatible to program Arduino Pro Mini boards and similar. In addition, there is an extra row of pins with the remaining signals for a full serial port.
There is an onboard switch that you can use to select the operating voltage for both the inputs and outputs signals, including the VCC pin. You can select to work with either 3.3V or 5V signal levels.
There are also two LEDs that indicate when there is TX and RX activity on the serial lines. The USB mini connector placed on one of its long sides makes this board more reliable and less prone to accidental disconnections as if the USB connector were placed at the short side of the board.
The same signals you can find in the main connector there are also present on the bottom of the board as 1″ (2.54mm) spaced pins. As an option, you can desolder the black connector and use any 1″ (2.54mm) connector you want, like right angle pin headers.
